Chapter 4:  On the Tip of the Tongue

  • When playing the trombone, the tongue is used to give each note a crisp beginning.  We call this "Articulation".

To earn the third Gem of Mastery:

Play the audio clip below.  You'll hear a trombone playing some short patterns.  In the silence between each pattern, play back the pattern like an echo.  Use your tongue to begin each note as if saying "Too".  Make sure your air stream is always "on".  Don't stop it in between notes!   When you can play the echoes and sound very similar to the recording, you will have mastered this skill!
